Las Caletas Day Adventure

Cruise across the gorgeous waters of Banderas Bay for a fun-filled day in a remote coastal retreat, the spectacular cove of Las Caletas. You can experience a variety of water sports, like scuba diving (if you are certified), snorkeling, swimming and kayaking. If you are in the mood for simply relaxing, we also offer spa treatments at our hilltop resort, learning to cook paella, strolling along the beach or forest paths, or simply sunbathing on the shores of one of the most picturesque coves you'll ever see.

Your tour will begin as you board one of our luxurious motorized catamarans on a cruise across Banderas Bay. Be sure to be on the lookout for local wildlife as you travel to Las Caletas. Pods of Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins are often spotted off the bow. During the winter months, Humpback Whales may be seen breaching the surface of the Bay in a spectacular fashion. As you approach the rocky coastline, be sure to look for Sea Lions as they warm themselves in the tropical sunshine along the shore.

Upon arriving at Las Caletas, you may select from a wide array of activities. Be sure to take advantage of the amazing underwater coral reefs beneath the crystal-clear waters of the cove. You can strap on the snorkeling equipment or scuba gear to explore the amazing habitat teeming with sea life. Or, you may choose to explore the cove on top of the placid water in a sea kayak.

Las Caletas also has plenty of land-based attractions, including a natural amphitheater that you will discover on a guided nature hike into the lush jungle. You'll be amazed by the beauty of the orchid gardens and delighted with the parrots in the aviary. You can even learn to cook a local specialty, paella, in a rustic-style kitchen. After working your muscles hiking or snorkeling, be sure to take advantage of the facilities at our hilltop Spa Center.

Las Caletas has quite an interesting history. This legendary location was once the holiday estate of John Huston, the celebrated film director. Huston shot his movie, The Night of the Iguana, on location in Puerto Vallarta. Huston loved the area so much that he built a vacation home on the most beautiful remote place he could find, beside the beach of Las Caletas. The worldwide exposure of Puerto Vallarta by Huston's film drew developers and vacationers alike. Puerto Vallarta's Puerto Vallarta as a vacation destination resulted in an explosion in popularity in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta continue to draw new visitors every year.
